"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me..." When Jesus took up the scroll in the temple and read from the words of the prophet Isaiah
(Luke 4:17-21), He read this far: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; Then He returned the scroll to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes were upon Him, and He told them, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." What I had overlooked completely until Ray Sopp of Sopp Ministries (http://www.soppministries.org) pointed it out recently in his devotional entitled "The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me"
is this: Jesus stopped reading in the middle of a verse. Part of the prophecy wasn't fulfilled when Jesus spoke that day, according to Isaiah and to Jesus Himself. It remains to be fulfilled when Christ returns in glory: AND THE DAY OF VENGEANCE OF OUR GOD... There's more yet to the prophecy in Isaiah, but I think the above line is show-stopper enough for one day. All signs point to the imminent return of our Lord Jesus... and on His return, He will undoubtedly pick up where He left off... PRAY, dear ones, PRAY!!! |
